HAPPI TV Review
Oh, boy, where do I even begin with "In the Palm of His Hand"? This movie is pure, unadulterated guilty pleasure, the kind you secretly binge when no one's looking and then swear you only watched "ironically." But let's be real, there's something undeniably captivating about it.
The premise is… well, it's out there. Sweet, innocent college student Shelby (played with a wide-eyed innocence that's either brilliant acting or just plain naivete) stumbles into the path of Matteo Franconi, a billionaire ex-mafia CEO with enough baggage to fill an entire airport. She saves his life, and BAM, he's head-over-heels, ready to whisk her away into a world of unimaginable wealth and… questionable ethics.
The movie dances on a tightrope between thrilling and terrifying. Is Matteo a reformed bad boy with a heart of gold buried under layers of expensive suits and brooding stares? Or is Shelby walking into a gilded cage with a very dangerous keeper? The film does a decent job of keeping you guessing, throwing in moments of tenderness alongside glimpses of the darkness that still lurks beneath Matteo's polished exterior.
The performances are a mixed bag. The lead actor definitely has the brooding part down, but sometimes his attempts at vulnerability feel a little forced. Shelby, on the other hand, is consistently believable, even when making choices that leave you screaming at the screen. The supporting cast is filled with the usual mafia movie tropes – the loyal consigliere, the suspicious rivals – but they play their parts well enough.
Look, "In the Palm of His Hand" isn't going to win any Oscars. The plot is predictable in places, the dialogue can be cheesy, and the whole thing is drenched in a melodramatic haze. But if you're looking for a movie that will suck you in, keep you guessing, and leave you with a ridiculous grin on your face, then you could do a lot worse. Just be prepared to suspend your disbelief and embrace the over-the-top romance. It's the kind of movie that would make a great watch with your friends over some snacks and maybe a little wine.
